17th-18th Century Burney Collection Newspapers
Sourced from the British Library, this archive is a collection of the newspapers and news pamphlets gathered by Reverend Charles Burney (b. 1757-d. 1817). Although the majority is published in London, there are some English provincial, Irish and Scottish papers, as well as a handful of examples from the American colonies. Since the original Burney volumes are now in a poor physical state and only available through restricted use, this collection will put these early newspapers into the hands of scholars and researchers, opening up new areas of study in English history as well as in many other fields. Release planned for November 2007.
